February 28th, 2010Do You Know Of Any Craft Ideas For Burned Out Christmas Light Bulbs?
We are trying to do some crafts with some Christmas light bulbs (both the tiny tube like ones and the larger ‘bulby’ ones) we’ve got laying around. Has anyone used these for crafts? We are especially looking for Christmas crafts, but any crafts will do.

Well, polymer clayers use bulbs of all sizes and shapes to either use as temporary forms for making “bowls” and various kinds of other things, as well as leaving them under the clay as permanent “armatures.” ‘When left if, the bulbs can be completely covered with clay or only partly covered. The results can be used as ornaments, little figures, jewelry, etc., etc.
Here’s just one examplehttp://www.sculpey.com/Projects/projects…
though the decorations or final item could be anything –sometimes the bulb will end up as the “body” for a simple figure/Santa/animal, etc…. here’s one where the whole head is the bulb:http://www.babettecox.com/polymerclay.ht… (…click on the Santa head on left for enlargement)
Check out a bunch of the possibilties for both those things on at least these pages at my site:http://glassattic.com/polymer/covering.h… …under the “Glass” category, click on the subcategory LIGHT BULBShttp://glassattic.com/polymer/Christmas.… …under Glass Bulbs, click on XMAS BULBS, etc
And this page has loads more examples of something quite similar that could also give you ideas for the bulby ones since so many of the links at my site are now broken for the types above:http://glassattic.com/polymer/BOH.htm … click on anything under the EXAMPLES category
As for the tiny tube ones, you could use those in lots of ways without polymer clay, but since they’re glass they can easily be baked right along with polymer clay (embedded in it, on top of it, etc.) if you want, or of course glued on afterwards.
HTH, and have fun!

I’ve used the larger bulbs to make pendants for necklaces and earrings. I’ve also painted Santa faces on them to make hanging ornaments and also painted reindeer faces and put chenille-stem antlers on them.
Sorry, no ideas for the tiny ones. Maybe stringing a bunch for a necklace?

Why not make them into a wreath? That way you don’t have to worry about them burning out every time the door closes! Here’s some instructions:http://quazen.com/recreation/crafts/chri…
